Coop Overview
Created more than a century ago, the Selimbong plantation specialized in organic agriculture, which adds value to the tea and provides better revenue (remuneration isn't a common word in the US, but it works when alternated with something like revenue, payment, etc) to the farmers. Additional income is invested with priority to the training of producers.
The Selimbong plantation works in close collaboration with the Sanjukta Vikash cooperative, which was created in 1996 by a local NGO. This co-op aims to improve the production structure and equipment, and the living conditions of tea farmers.
This initiative is at the origin of a tea culture revitalization in the area, thus bringing stable income and a focus for the area's economy. Thanks to this direct subsidiary, the area's population keeps the full added value (i.e. transformation) of the production process.
